This year really was all about home. I prepared for a magazine holiday photo shoot- it’ll be out next year, lips sealed til then! Pretty exciting, and I went festive on the entire house. It’s amazing what you can do with thrifted, estate saled, hunted down items, and it helps that I basically have a vintage prop closet in my studio. Stephan and I picked up quite a few new to us vintage holiday pieces this year and they certainly came in handy for the decor! I had a great time styling the house up and I think we got some great shots. I just looove working on these projects so much! I’ll share some select overall pics of the house, and if you want to see a lot more check out my instagram page, lots of details there! LOTS!
It’s that time of year! I’m doing little house projects and decorating like mad for a holiday project! 🙂 Shipping out and making orders and keeping up with regular life activities have me busy busy! The vintage holiday section has about 100 pieces in it as usual, coming and going with a furry! So grab quick there! SALES-let’s get to it! I’m having sales all weekend through Tues in both my artgoodies etsy shop and also my vintage shop where you can SAVE up to 30% OFF! And here on my regular website there are Cyber Monday SALES starting today and going through the 30th! SHIPPING! I’m shipping every single day! If you buy directly from me, which I hope you will, the best way to support an independent designer/maker/curator of vintage things, is to buy straight from the source! SO, get your orders in asap, and keep in mind the following USPS domestic shipping dates, most of my packages will ship through the post office. First class cut off date-Dec 19th, Priority-20th, Express-22nd. Every year I’m scrambling to help some poor soul overnight a package. I’m happy to do all I can but really, by that point I’m tired, bleery eyed, probably have to walk 2 miles in the snow to get the package there, you get the idea, please please please, don’t do it, hahahahaa. That said, as usual I’m always happy to send packages directly to the recipient, wrapped in tissue and tied with a bow I can save you time and shipping money by sending direct! Happy Holidays all!
November! I’m feeling more chipper about the holiday season this year. Maybe it’s because we’re slated for a fun photo shoot, or because the temps have been awesome and I’ve been gardening away for what seems longer than normal. I did a big pre cold harvest in the garden to avoid the usual and sometimes flashlight assisted panic harvest. So much better, ha. We’ve also been busy gathering up all sorts of goodies for the vintage shop! Vintage holiday as well as the usual home goods. Plenty of vintage to choose from this season! Plus I’ve been working more in the studio: making, cleaning, and thinking of new plans and ideas which feels nice. I’ve really been on a bit of a hiatus, focusing on Stephan and I, the wedding, not feeling well before and after surgery, and just feeling tired from working SO hard for sooo long. I’m gearing back up though, so look out. Let’s get back to the Color of the Month, getting festive for Thanksgiving, and I’m already thinking holiday decor!
October! Fall! But the weather feels awesome like summer, so…hooray! The garden is still producing nicely and we’re enjoying a lot of time outside. We just celebrated our one year anniversary, my parents birthdays with a little lake visit, and tomorrow I celebrate 1 year of recovering from a major surgery and being overjoyed that what they thought was potentially cancerous was benign. WHAT. A. YEAR! There are so many things to say and yet I can’t quite find the right words. So instead, I give you color of the month October 2017!
I’m very excited to have part of my rare blue vintage Japanese holiday collection featured in the Fall 2017 issue of Vintage Holiday Magazine! AND my artgoodies stripey elf tea towel is on page 10 too! You’ll find my blue pals inside the cover, pages 20-21 with quotes and tips, and on page 130 in the very back. Don’t forget I pack the vintage shop with over 100 great vintage holiday items every year so you can start or add to your own collection! It officially hits the newsstands Oct 3 and is a pretty fantastic issue!
I’m doing another Pop Up shop while I’ve got everything set up in the garage! Plus a friend just dropped off some estate items. I’ve been adding items daily, and I’ll be bringing out some more fall and holiday themed artgoodies! Plus there will be a clearance vintage and artgoodies tent! I even made some fall floral arrangements for purchase this time around! Sept 21-23! Thursday and Friday 12-6 and Saturday 10-4. 475 Julia St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505
September! Wow. I’m working on embracing that early fall feeling, although it is STILL summer folks! Mornings are starting to get a bit chilly on the new side patio, but we are spending lots of time there. We have also been planting some new fall blooming friends like mums, asters, hyssop, and some spring bulbs. Plus, I’m harvesting garden goodies and making sauces, chopping, and freezing for what we are now calling “the off season”, ahem..aka..winter. As usual, I’m having a hard time wrapping my brain around the garden going to sleep, but Stephan assures me that time outside will still be fun with activities like igloo building. Looks like I’ll have to up my outdoor winter wardrobe! So with that, color of the month! Aqua, in honor of our wedding brunch theme and 1st anniversary!
The garden, we are all about it, and it’s super fun to work on together. Last year Stephan dug out the bamboo grass I planted long long ago that had marched out of control and we replanted the back garden. This year we decided to dig out more grass out front, remove some bushes, replace them with hydrangeas, and also add a lot more flowers into the mix. We are working our way to being as grass free as possible, and made some major headway this year. More on the front yard later. The side yard where I’ve had my raised beds for veggies needed some help this year. 2 of the 3 raised beds were rotted due to age. SO, we decided to completely dig out the entire side yard, put down a path, a patio, and then expand the veggie gardens planting right into the ground. Best decision ever! It’s great because the back yard flows nicely into the side yard now, and we spend a ton of time on the new side patio. We usually take our coffee and some fruit or snacky breakfast out there and we can see both the veggie garden and the back yard. We’ve also focused on planting even more bird, butterfly, and bee friendly plants which I already had a nice base of. It’s really made a difference and we love it. We have several different kinds of butterflies: monarch, cabbage, swallowtail, black swallowtail. All sorts of bees bumble about everyday, and the birds, especially the yellow finches are having a heyday with all the new seeds they can eat. Plus we’ve seen an increase in hummingbird sightings which is also super fun! We love our little city sanctuary backyard. We have so many varieties of birds, some bunnies, big squirrels, lil squirrels, chipmunks, and so many different bee friends. The flowers are beautiful and provide such gorgeous color throughout the season. The veggie garden has been producing so much great food, it’s just awesome. I’ve been busy freezing and making delicious meals with the bounty. We are enjoying: lettuce, chard, arugula, onions, several different kinds of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, zucchini, green beans, kale, some squash and carrots are on the way, plus we can’t wait to harvest the fennel seed this fall. It’s amazing what you can do with a small space and how much it can provide for both you, and the wildlife friends. It’s good for you and the environment! Here’s a super quick video tour as well! The fence which is usually covered in vines is barren, seems to be a bad yer for some pests so we stripped the fence of the ill plants to control the problem and applied neem oil on the plants. Seemed to work pretty good and we avoided the use of gross chemicals too! Follow me on instagram for more insight into the garden, cooking, studio, fresh vintage finds etc!
August! I’d like to remind people who complain that summer is pretty much over that there is plenty of time to be outside and enjoy the amazing weather and garden time! Enjoy it folks, soak it in! We sure have been enjoying cottage time, gardening, patio time, and watching: the birds, squirrels, chipmunks, butterflies, etc, it’s so awesome! Fave vintage: the yellow and gold ceramic peacock, gorgeous canister set, cream n sugar set, piggy planter, salt n p’s, flower glass, coffee mugs, yellow ware bowl, anchored on a Navy hankie that says friend. Lots of great pieces this month. Head to the vintage shop to buy most of it! How bout that this sunshine yellow melmac! Bright and fun just like summer! Flowers from the garden too! Fave vintage: the melmac, of course, plaid napkins, flower glasses, and bold tablecloth!
