color of the month- RED Hot Summer!

Whew, sure has been a hot summer with temps in the 90s more often than not. Plus I’m feeling the heat squeezin this color of the month in on the very last day of the month!

Fave items this month are: the bendy guitar doll that hangs out in my studio, the red maple leaf tray, the tulip glass, the tins are fantastic, the 4 flowery mugs, and the odd tea towel that looks like it suggests corned beef and brains is one of my favorites from my collection! Plus see that map thing on the left, you can scroll through and one side gives you the state and the other side the capital! What a smart learning tool, so simple too!

Does absence make the heart grow fonder?

My blog and stores have been so very quiet, I hope you’ve missed me. I know, I’m behind on color of the month, bringing you fun new vintage items, new artgoodies products etc, but all with good reason. I’ve been away for weeks helping my parents sort, have garage sales, and move.  After a long long wait (emphasis on the long) their house is sold and they have moved to the family cottage! Congrats Mom and Dad! Love you!!! Now back to work I go! Come out to the Vintage Bazaar in Chicago this weekend at the Congress Theatre on Sunday and find me with a booth of vintage goodness! Plus don’t forget Renegade Chicago is right around the corner Sept 11-12th and artgoodies booth will be stocked up!!!

Garage Gallery

So, I haven’t been traveling very much this summer which is highly unusual for me.  Instead I decided to spend more time at home, with family and friends,  soakin up the sun, and all the other great summery goodness that I’ve been missing. I wanted to do this event last year but just plain ran out of time! This year I decided to make it happen. A Pop Up Store event in my garage merging the wonderful worlds of artgoodies and vintagegoodies! I may do it another weekend too, what d’ya think???

The Blueberry Ranch

BLUEBERRIES!!! Woohooohoo! It’s pickin time! I went on a little pickin adventure today. We like to go to The Blueberry Ranch in Mishawaka, IN-we’ve been going there since the 70s.  It’s been there since 1953 and is one of the largest U-Pick blueberry farms in the Midwest! AND super bonus-their blueberries are organic! I love fresh blueberries, and you can bet there will be some freshy fresh muffins for breakfast this week!

How awesome is this sign...I want one.

Yummy, delicious fresh blueberries!

a cottage garden

The deliciousness of summer has begun! There’s simply nothing like going out to the garden to harvest some fresh food! From fruits to veggies the bounty has begun!

A few blueberries made themselves known at the family cottage garden. They were quickly devoured! I can't wait to go blueberry picking soon! One of my favorite summertime activities and treats! Stay tuned for a blog post about that!

This little bundle of wonderfulness came from my garden at home, picked fresh in the drizzling rain. When I left for the weekend they were just tiny little guys and voila now they are lunch!

Wild black raspberries! YUM! My parents have them up and down the driveway at their house, but these beauties are from the cottage. I have fond memories of going out with my little pink cup, or a lavendar melmac cup and harvesting as many as I could find. Then grandma would sprinkle a little sugar on them and they were pure heaven!

A few radishes from the cottage garden! This is just one side of mom's gorgeous garden at the family cottage! I bet you can't wait to see what comes out of here next!

Process, process, process

Freshly inked and ready to print! I love custom mixing color and watching the block come alive!

After transferring the pattern to the block I've begun the long process of carving away. I was thinking about the crochet and lace process as I carved. Both take a lot of time and I wondered if I was crocheting a doily if it would be done at the same time or close. After not carving a block for a couple few months I was reminded how much sheer muscle and control you have to have. I love the process and power of printmaking!

And here it is, hot off the press! I literally just printed this! A modern twist on an old school linen dating back to the 17th century! Inspired by a stack of plastic doilies I have and thinking about the ones my grandma had growing up I just decided to carve this block spur of the moment last night. Seemed like the right thing to do when I couldn't sleep! I also printed up some pieces to sew into pillows, so stay tuned to my shop for those!

color of the month- white linen

There’s something about summertime that evokes that fresh linens on the line feel and smell. So in honor of fresh air the color of the month is pure clean white! I have been spending a lot of time in the garden lately. I think it has inspired this curious little wonderland of white planters,  gnomes, and animal friends.

This time most of the color of the month comes straight from my personal collection. The phone is available in my vintage shop but the squirrel planters are mine all mine! A great blend of old and new ceramic pieces, plus a bit of melmac of course! My favorites are some of the many McCoy planters I have, the faux bois long planter on top, the small bamboo one and the large planter to the right. Check out the bear and squirrel wedding cake toppper by Melabo! You can pick up your own custom creation in her great shop and the trio of gnomes were made by my brother and fiance, check the link below! Plus you can never go wrong with a doily!

From CapitalCityArt on Etsy, these ultra cute gnomes look great in a modern home! I'm sure if you asked for a set they'd oblige.

The perfect place to relax and enjoy the yard!
