For goodness sake, it’s time to bake!

I guess I’ve been on a mini baking spree this past week. It’s still so cold, and honestly I’m just plain tired of it. If I can’t bake myself in the sun this year I’m just going to bake in the oven! Consequently it heats up the house a bit which is a super bonus and it sure makes for a nice rewarding break in the middle of a workday! I’ve been trying out some gluten-free flour and I have to say it’s working out pretty darn good.

I wasn't sure what to expect with my impromptu recipe. I like to "refer" to recipes when I bake or cook and then just make my own up. But would it work with gluten free flour? The answer, an astounding yes! I have to say these cranberry orange vanilla chip drop scones were addictive! I had to excercise some serious restraint so I would have a couple left to bring to my friends' house! Yummy!

Today's menu: gluten free banana almond bread. Delish with a nice glass of almond milk! Plus I can put one or 2 away in the freezer! And look at that scallopy edged melmac plate, I only have one but I sure love it! Super cute! Oh and the vintage aqua and gray pinecone glass- amazing!

color of the month- Think Spring!

So we’ve had a couple of what feels like balmy days here in MI, and by that I mean 40 something. The snow has greatly melted, yeah yeah, I know it’s a teaser and there’s more winter on the way but I’m totally falling for it! I’m dying to get outside and start gardening, stat! So with that in mind this month is all about green! I can’t wait to see my little green planty friends poking through the ground, oh how I’ve missed you! Want to get your hands on some vintage green goodies? Go to my shop and search the word “green” and you’ll find some of the things below! www.vintagegoodies.etsy.com. Helpful Hint- can I get a side O’ Mayo???

Okay, so this is just too good and too strange not to share. A few months back I was complaining to my dad about the water marks and scratches left on the top of my vintage console radio. Some of them had been there for years, and some of them new from a plant whose leaves had dripped! UGH! My dad, clever as ever, remembered a trick they used to use in college. Wait for it….mayo! Really? MAYO- as in would you like some mayo on your sandwich? YES! Really? I had to see this for myself!! The other night I was looking at my vintage hutch and though yes, the perfect opportunity to test it out again. Below you will find the before and after. There are different instructions online but I simply wiped the mayo on and rubbed a second and voila! It works, and it is amazing! I still can’t believe it. I’ve used it on my coffee table, and even a bad scratch in my wood floor! It’s a vintage miracle! Can I get an AMEN!

BEFORE. I wasn't sure if it would work, I mean look at that serious scraping action on the left- eek!

AFTER- Holy crap! It's gone! Almost all the other little dings and scratches have disappeared!

Blizzard Blast 2011

At times like these I am ever so thankful to be safely snuggled up in my nice cozy warm house. And for having a snow removal service, seriously.  The wind was howling and the snow was coming down fast and furious, I awoke to the sound of shovels and snowblowers. Again, so thankful that my work was here at home a short trip down the steps.

After the storm the sun started shining and you could really see how much snow was in the road! All day neighbors tried to dig their way out and get to work. Every single one of them got stuck! Fortunately my neighbors are great and everyone was helping dig, push, and shovel their way out. One of my neighbors even shoveled my steps for me!

My house the day after. The streets, sidewalk, and driveway have been plowed and the sun shining again is making for some insane icicles! The radio said we had 16 inches, sure seemed more like 20 but either way it was a bunch!

color of the month- Sunshine Saturday

Brrr! It’s so very cold here in snowy Michigan! I’ve been missing the sun and so a nice cheery yellow seemed more than appropriate for the month of January!

Sunshiney yellow was calling my name as I daydreamed about it on a very chilly winter's day! Fab vintage glassware, salt and p's, a yellow pencil sharpener, string can, trays, and fun vintage planters, plus the awesome vintage mushroom tea towel it all sets on were on deck. Oh and the pan mending kit, and laundry sprinkler, plus the usual melmac all come together to make a cheery distraction!

It's been awhile since I did one of my table settings and a cold gray wintery January day was a great excuse to do this cheery yellow setting! Yellow melmac, of course, sits on a gorgeous yellow rose tablecloth, with vintage salt and p's, a vintage Burrite pitcher, and awesome giant ice tea tumblers with leaf design! Plus my new fave flower, a green trick dianthus, sits amongst some cheery mums. Now, who wants to come over for dinner?

Home for the Holidays Part 2

Okay, so apparently there is going to be a part 3 too! I have added another display this year due to my expanding collection, so stay tuned for the final installment of Home for the Holidays artgoodies style!

New this year is the window sill display in the living room right under the vintage felt Christmas banner. I love these vintage deer! Most of them made in Japan. And that lanky Santa next to the bottle brush tree and the sled of friends, this is good stuff! These guys are so fun and festive!

This little snowman collection sits on the shelf right above the bathroom sink. My faves are the grumpy one on the top left, and the cigar smokin one on the bottom right!

This year the table gets decorated with an unusual shiny bright tree! Made of clear plastic with silver glitter, the branches have little notches to hold the tiny glass balls! Plus on my vintage console radio sits a little gold tinsel tree from Japan. And I couldn't be more excited, I finally put up my grandma's 40s black Zomba barkcloth drapes after finding them when my parents moved this summer. I spent countless hours lying in bed at her house staring at these drapes! I love them! They fit right in with my wall color and the German console radio I also brought over from my parents house. It used to belong to my Grandpa Price and still works and sounds like a dream!
