color of the month- vintage blues April 2011

Yes, I know, this is for April and now it’s May.  I’m late, and I’m sorry to keep you waiting friends. What can I say, there was so much going on, technological meltdowns with my computer and camera and well and I simply got a case of the vintage blues. I’m back up and running and here is your color of the month! Just think you’ll get another one for May sooner than later! Thanks for your patience!

Favorite items, the jug cooler, oblong melmac bowl, Maxwell House tin, cute sippy cup, and the mid century ceramic piece with the black outside with teeny eenny white stripes, not sure who made that one.

May I also suggest one of my NEW all over pattern doily towels for all your aqua kitchen needs! So cute and a perfect fresh look this spring and summery season!

A great getaway!

I had the opportunity to head to Nevada for some fun and sun and fresh air. I thought I’d share some pics of Red Rock Canyon which is just a short drive from Las Vegas and a great change of pace for part of a day. I highly reccommend a little day trip! The welcome center at the canyon was amazing! Full of great info, sculptures, and the scenic 13 mile drive was astounding! Make sure to pack some sturdy shoes conducive to a little rock climbing and hiking!

What an amazing drive and view!

The red rocks were amazing. Spring plants were blooming in the desert too! Yellow, orange, red, purple, what a sight!

We even spotted some wild burrows just outside of Bonnie Springs. We stopped to have a look see and one of them came over and scratched it's head on our car mirror! And look at that cute little baby donkey! Hee haw hee haw!

Ahh, fresh desert air.

I can't even believe this picture. Stunning. And I snapped it from a moving car, seriously.

Here's one from Bonnie Springs, what an interesting place. This looks fake to me. How beautiful!

color of the month- White Gold

Here’s my way of saying goodbye to the white stuff and hello to the sunshine! Hopefully we are all done with the snow and sunshiney Spring days are ahead!

Fave pieces are the amazing feather glasses! The mid century tea towel, ice crusher, and the trio of Pepsi glasses which show you the proper serving size, much different that today's giant glugs of pop.

Anchored by a vintage plastic picnic cloth this setting has the usual melmac, some mod mustardy gold star dishes, the classic tray, and a great vintage bun warmer!

For goodness sake, it’s time to bake!

I guess I’ve been on a mini baking spree this past week. It’s still so cold, and honestly I’m just plain tired of it. If I can’t bake myself in the sun this year I’m just going to bake in the oven! Consequently it heats up the house a bit which is a super bonus and it sure makes for a nice rewarding break in the middle of a workday! I’ve been trying out some gluten-free flour and I have to say it’s working out pretty darn good.

I wasn't sure what to expect with my impromptu recipe. I like to "refer" to recipes when I bake or cook and then just make my own up. But would it work with gluten free flour? The answer, an astounding yes! I have to say these cranberry orange vanilla chip drop scones were addictive! I had to excercise some serious restraint so I would have a couple left to bring to my friends' house! Yummy!

Today's menu: gluten free banana almond bread. Delish with a nice glass of almond milk! Plus I can put one or 2 away in the freezer! And look at that scallopy edged melmac plate, I only have one but I sure love it! Super cute! Oh and the vintage aqua and gray pinecone glass- amazing!

color of the month- Think Spring!

So we’ve had a couple of what feels like balmy days here in MI, and by that I mean 40 something. The snow has greatly melted, yeah yeah, I know it’s a teaser and there’s more winter on the way but I’m totally falling for it! I’m dying to get outside and start gardening, stat! So with that in mind this month is all about green! I can’t wait to see my little green planty friends poking through the ground, oh how I’ve missed you! Want to get your hands on some vintage green goodies? Go to my shop and search the word “green” and you’ll find some of the things below! www.vintagegoodies.etsy.com. Then head on over to artgoodies for your own nest towel! www.artgoodies.etsy.com

Fave vintage pieces: the green handled beaters, the dancing drink tea towel, the water/juice glass jar, and the mini pyrex! Plus the ivy graphics on those glasses are fresh and bold!

I couldn't wait to do a table setting so I could use my new vintage green polka dot napkins! Plus this vintage tablecloth is a great reminder of sunshiney days at the beach! Of course throw in a tray, some melmac, and an artgoodies nest towel and voila! A perfect reminder that Spring is on the way...eventually!

Helpful Hint- can I get a side O’ Mayo???

Okay, so this is just too good and too strange not to share. A few months back I was complaining to my dad about the water marks and scratches left on the top of my vintage console radio. Some of them had been there for years, and some of them new from a plant whose leaves had dripped! UGH! My dad, clever as ever, remembered a trick they used to use in college. Wait for it….mayo! Really? MAYO- as in would you like some mayo on your sandwich? YES! Really? I had to see this for myself!! The other night I was looking at my vintage hutch and though yes, the perfect opportunity to test it out again. Below you will find the before and after. There are different instructions online but I simply wiped the mayo on and rubbed a second and voila! It works, and it is amazing! I still can’t believe it. I’ve used it on my coffee table, and even a bad scratch in my wood floor! It’s a vintage miracle! Can I get an AMEN!

BEFORE. I wasn't sure if it would work, I mean look at that serious scraping action on the left- eek!

AFTER- Holy crap! It's gone! Almost all the other little dings and scratches have disappeared!

Blizzard Blast 2011

At times like these I am ever so thankful to be safely snuggled up in my nice cozy warm house. And for having a snow removal service, seriously.  The wind was howling and the snow was coming down fast and furious, I awoke to the sound of shovels and snowblowers. Again, so thankful that my work was here at home a short trip down the steps.

After the storm the sun started shining and you could really see how much snow was in the road! All day neighbors tried to dig their way out and get to work. Every single one of them got stuck! Fortunately my neighbors are great and everyone was helping dig, push, and shovel their way out. One of my neighbors even shoveled my steps for me!

My house the day after. The streets, sidewalk, and driveway have been plowed and the sun shining again is making for some insane icicles! The radio said we had 16 inches, sure seemed more like 20 but either way it was a bunch!
